This particular painting emphasizes the deformation/dismemberment of the body: the feet seem to have grown roots into the bottom of the sea. The face does not exist anymore, not even as a skeleton; and the former heart is torn into pieces that resemble a cross. The surrounding black of the sea is now a tomb.
